….. I hugged my sons as they nestled their heads on my chest, each claiming one of my breast to inhale the scent. This everyday ritual of us embracing each other was now threatened.
The voice of the surgeon jolted me back to reality, “I know this is difficult, but ….” Cutting him short, I responded: “… remove my breast? Is there no other option?”

About the author…
Phoolo Danny-Maharaj began her writing career in her teens with poetry and plays. Even while working as photographer in 1980, she became a freelance photo / journalist. In 1982 she joined the staff at the Trinidad Express Newspapers. She traveled near and far churning out News and Feature stories and photographs on a daily basis.

In 2012, she was recognized with a National award, the Hummingbird Medal for her contribution to journalism.
